OpenAI is developing a smart speaker as its first hardware product, with a price tag between $200 and $300 and a planned release in 2027. The device will incorporate a camera, facial-recognition and item-recognition capabilities, enabling voice-based assistance, smart-home functions and purchases using a Face ID-like system. OpenAI has more than 200 staff working on AI-device projects.
