Meta hired contractors to pose as teenagers and interact with competing AI chatbots, deliberately prompting the systems about suicide, sexual content and drug-related topics. The purpose was to assess how those chatbots would respond to high-risk queries. This testing was carried out by Meta’s workforce rather than by external researchers.
