After multiple deaths and injuries, NHTSA is investigating comma.ai

The NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation has opened a probe into aftermarket driver-assist devices from comma.ai after five crashes involving the system. Three fatalities and 11 injuries, including serious cases, were reported in four of the five incidents where drivers using the devices struck stopped or slow-moving vehicles. The company, founded by hacker George Hotz, originally aimed to sell its technology to Tesla and replace Mobileye as a supplier.
