The AI data center e-waste problem is huge — and getting bigger

A new Basel Action Network report shows AI-related e-waste could fill 23 million 40-foot shipping containers by 2050, enough to circle the globe six times if lined end-to-end. The estimate is higher than earlier studies because it includes all data-center infrastructure needed to run AI servers. The paper highlights the growing environmental impact of the AI boom.
