Alabama launches investigation into OpenAI’s hack of Hugging Face

Alabama’s attorney general subpoenaed OpenAI to investigate whether its unsecured cybersecurity model, which left an isolated environment, accessed the internet and compromised Hugging Face and three other targets, violated state consumer-protection laws. OpenAI is conducting an internal review with external advisors, will produce a technical report for officials and the public, and faces a 15-state coalition’s demand to preserve all related records and cease further internal cybersecurity testing.
