Alberta (Canada) slaps punitive tax on solar panels

Alberta’s United Conservative Party will charge a $14 per-panel recycling fee and prohibit landfill disposal of solar panels beginning Oct. 1, aiming to steer end-of-life panels to reuse and recycling. The Business Renewables Centre-Canada says the fee is 139-to-3,500% higher than any other jurisdiction and lacks cost justification. The province projects that by 2045 over 95% of existing panels will be retired, producing roughly 72,700 tonnes of material.
