America's Two Largest School Districts Impose AI Moratoriums

New York City’s Department of Education will ban student-facing AI in all K-8 classes for 2026-27, permitting only a limited set of approved tools for high-schoolers, while Los Angeles Unified School District imposes a one-year moratorium on generative-AI use across its 378,000-student network. Both bans follow renewed pressure from parent, teacher and student coalitions after earlier, less restrictive policies were abandoned.
