Anthropic says Claude designed working protein binders, and beat human experts on some

Claude’s Opus 4.8 and a Mythos preview designed protein binders for 15 targets, achieving 22-35% binding rates and yielding 354 confirmed binders from 1,320 designs. The Mythos preview hit a 40% success rate on RBX1, versus 3.7% for human competitors. Independent labs validated several binders with tighter affinities than prior reports. Claude Opus 5 processed raw NMR and LC-MS data in under 25 minutes, producing purity and hydrogen-count results identical to the contract laboratory’s measurements.
