Anthropic says its biology lab has already found something big

Anthropic’s Bay Area wet-biology lab, established this spring, used its Claude AI to identify a previously unknown enzyme system in bacteriophage DNA that can cut, copy, and paste DNA, resembling CRISPR. Claude required 21 hours of analysis, processing 210 million tokens with 950 agents. The discovery was made by human scientists under BSL-1/2 conditions, while Anthropic plans to keep AI-controlled experiments manual for now.
