Anthropic’s Dario Amodei says the AI industry must slow down

Dario Amodei called for slowing AI model capability gains and suggested embedding third-party evaluators with full access to risk teams, while seeking a U.S. antitrust waiver to enable competitor safety coordination. He warned a coordinated AI swarm could dominate the internet in six to twelve months, causing hundreds of billions in damages. EU law will mandate adversarial testing and systemic-risk safeguards for general-purpose models starting 2 August 2025, yet Amodei’s proposal does not reference those regulations.
