Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union

Apple will replace its Core Technology Fee with a 5% Core Technology Commission on digital transactions outside the App Store, effective October 1. Commission rates: 26% for standard in-app purchases; 15% for most developers and auto-renewing subscriptions after year one; 20% for alternative payment processing (10% for certain programs); 15% for link-out purchases (10% for certain programs); 5% for alternative marketplaces or web-distributed apps. Developers may combine Apple In-App Purchase with alternative payment options and must maintain the chosen mix for 12 months. Child-safety rules require parental gates for users under 18 and prohibit link-outs for users under 13.
