Apple rescues Hide My Email feature from the privacy scrap heap

Apple reversed a planned shift of its Hide My Email addresses from @icloud.com to @private.icloud.com after user backlash, keeping the disposable addresses on the original domain so they remain indistinguishable from regular iCloud emails. The feature still allows Apple to reveal the true sender to law-enforcement, and a prior bug that leaked real addresses was patched over a year after discovery.
