Apple’s new iPhone camera mode promises to prove your photo isn’t AI

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will include a “Reference Image” mode that records raw sensor data for each pixel at capture, creating a cryptographically signed reference image stored in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute. The Photos app can then display this immutable reference alongside any edited versions, allowing users to verify whether a picture has been altered by AI or other editing tools.
