Are you using the right Ethernet port on your router? Here's how to know

Your router’s back panel contains distinct WAN and LAN ports; the WAN port connects to a modem or ONT, while LAN ports link local devices. LAN ports may differ in speed—labels like 1G, 2.5G, 5G, or 10G indicate maximum link rates, and some models mix gigabit and multi-gigabit ports. A device’s maximum speed depends on its own Ethernet adapter; a 1Gbps adapter cannot exceed 1Gbps even if plugged into a 10Gbps port.
