Australian data centres will use seven times more power by 2036

Australian data centres are projected to consume 34 TWh annually, representing 13% of the National Electricity Market by 2035-36, up from 3% today—a near-sevenfold increase in a decade. The surge coincides with the retirement of about 13 GW of coal and 2 GW of gas capacity, while new generation and storage of roughly 9 GW are being added to maintain reliability.
