Australia’s charts now require a human to sing the lead vocal

From Monday, Australia’s official music charts will ban wholly AI-generated tracks, requiring human-written songs, lead vocals and primary instruments, with only legally licensed AI tools permitted. The rule follows an AI-driven Madonna “Like a Prayer” cover that hit number 4, amassed 48 million Spotify streams and stayed 16 weeks in the top-20. ARIA will also prohibit such AI tracks from its awards, though AI may still be used for mastering, drum machines and auto-tune.
