Authors say publishers want a cut of Anthropic’s payout, the NYT reports
Anthropic agreed to pay $1.5 bn to authors whose books it pirated, with each title worth up to $3,000. The settlement splits payments 50/50 between authors and their publishers, so authors receive only a portion of the $3,000 and some, like textbook writers, may get as little as 10–15%. Disputes arise over ownership at the time of download, prompting court-appointed arbitrators to resolve disagreements.
