Batteries just broke another record in the US
Battery installations reached a record 20.2 GWh in Q2 2026, enough for roughly 700 000 homes, and put the United States on track for 71 GWh of storage this year—a 20% rise over 2025. Utility-scale projects drove the surge, with seven gigascale batteries added, while behind-the-meter systems grew, led by data centers, as residential installations fell 16% after a tax credit expired.
