The biggest downsides to using a digital car key

Digital car keys let Android and iOS users lock, unlock, and start vehicles via Google Wallet or Apple Wallet using ultra-wideband or NFC, requiring proximity. They resist relay attacks but can be accessed if a phone is stolen; manufacturers add extra authorization and two-factor authentication. Failsafe options allow key use for up to five hours after battery loss, and a lost-phone flag can lock the key remotely.
