Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy bets these 21 startups will shape energy’s future

Breakthrough Energy’s sixth Fellows cohort includes 21 startups targeting a 3-fold future electricity demand surge from sector electrification. The group spans proton-boron fusion (Borealis Fusion), reactor heat-management (StarWarden), semiconductor efficiency (Bedrock, K1, VariFlux), agriculture sensing, ocean-mineral robotics, and hydrogen-ammonia transport (AmHyTech, Ammovolt Energy). These ventures aim to lower energy costs, improve grid resilience, and support climate adaptation.
