Black Hole Museum: A New Idea for the Los Alamos Community (2025)

Ed Grothus, a former LANL machinist turned anti-nuclear activist, ran the Black Hole, a store that sold salvaged laboratory equipment for peaceful reuse. Janire Najera documented the shop through a book, film, and exhibitions in Wales and Spain, preserving artifacts that reveal Los Alamos’ nuclear history. A proposed Black Hole Museum would display these items in a sealed, self-service exhibit, possibly housed in a surplus shipping container or the airport incinerator building.
