Block’s new Apache 2.0 agent workspace Berd works across models and harnesses, stores conversation history locally

Block has open-sourced Berd, a desktop-first Apache 2.0-licensed workspace that lets users run AI agents from multiple providers (including Block’s Goose, Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex) within persistent projects, attach files, configure providers, and manage skills and automations. The app emphasizes visible state—showing active project, files, agent, model, and session details—and provides predefined personas such as Berdy, Pushback and Tinker, with builds for macOS, Windows and Linux.
