Border Wall Construction Threatens 6,000 Years of History on Private Lands

US Customs and Border Protection awarded billions for a 500-mile wall along the Rio Grande. Bulldozers cleared near Santa Elena Canyon and plan to extend the barrier across private ranch land. Archeologist Bryon Schroeder’s dig at Canta Recio, containing pottery, turquoise, and Mesoamerican copper bells from AD 800-1400, lies in the wall’s path and will be partially bulldozed. The Polvo site in Redford, Texas, holds a 1300s burial ground that the wall will also cut through.
