Brake problems in GM EVs draw greater federal scrutiny

The NHTSA has upgraded its probe of GM’s eBoost brake-by-wire system to an engineering analysis after more than 1 million vehicles—including EVs and several non-EV models—reported brake-assist loss, resulting in over 20 crashes, fires and six injuries. Investigators found that reported failures often differ from GM’s identified spindle fractures, prompting further scrutiny of potential eBoost malfunctions.
