Brazil fines TikTok’s owner $29.9m over children’s data, including guest sessions

Brazil’s National Data Protection Agency fined ByteDance 153.7 million reais ($29.9 million) for collecting and processing children’s personal data without a legal basis, covering both logged-in accounts and guest browsing sessions. The regulator ordered the deletion of the illicit data, a plan to improve minor-safety settings, stricter parental controls, and automatic privacy protections for users under 16, with ByteDance given ten days to appeal.
