Britain built a legal route to driverless taxis in May. London’s first robotaxi service did not use it.

Uber and Wayve launched a paid autonomous ride-hailing service in London on 3 September, with each vehicle staffed by a TfL-licensed private-hire driver despite a legal framework for driverless taxis being established in May. Olivia Solon rode one on a wet morning, reporting that the car operated autonomously while the driver kept their hands on the wheel.
