Brussels is asking publishers whether Google’s AI opt-out is any use

Google offered a global opt-out in June that lets publishers block their articles from AI-generated search summaries, but using it may reduce visibility on the prominent AI Search section. The European Commission surveyed publishers in July to gauge interest and assess whether the opt-out provides real control, amid complaints that AI answers siphon traffic—reported declines reach up to 58%—and ongoing legal actions in the UK, Germany and France.
