Can AI design circuit boards yet?

OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra demonstrated circuit-board design in KiCad, prompting the creation of EEBench to evaluate AI-generated electronics. EEBench uses declarative code to let agents modify components, run SPICE simulations, and assess performance against real-world tolerances, cost, and supply constraints. The benchmark measures voltage behavior during power outages, effective capacitance, and analog filter specifications to determine design quality.
