Can the US battery market untangle from China?
The U.S. energy-storage market is expanding rapidly, but an August executive order bans Chinese-made batteries from grid-scale projects, requiring 55% of material costs to come from non-restricted countries to qualify for tax credits starting in 2026. Higher tariffs and the ban could delay or cancel deployments, while domestic capacity from LG, Samsung, Ford and SK On is expected to meet demand only around 2030-2035.
