Can you use a satellite dish as a free TV antenna? It depends where you live

A rooftop satellite dish cannot receive local ABC, CBS, or NBC stations because it is designed for high-frequency space signals, while terrestrial broadcasts use lower VHF and UHF frequencies. The dish’s curved reflector and LNB focus signals unsuitable for OTA reception, so a dedicated terrestrial antenna is required, though the existing mounting point and coax can be reused. In the UK, free-to-air satellite services like Freesat and in the US, satellites such as Galaxy 19 provide limited free channels, but they still need compatible dishes, LNBs, and receivers.
