Canada now 'at war' with United States over trade, Prime Minister says

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada walked away from U.S. trade talks after the United States demanded language that would limit Canada’s sovereignty and excluded mid- and heavy-duty trucks from a proposed tariff cut, jeopardising Ford’s $5 billion Oakville plant and GM’s Oshawa facility. He announced Canada will match the U.S. 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion of goods, with retaliatory measures taking effect on Sept. 8.
