IQE’s CEO warned that indium phosphide substrates, essential for photonic chips used in AI data-centre networking, are increasingly at risk because China controls about 70% of global supply and export-control licences may be revoked. The Welsh chipmaker, which posted a 40% revenue rise and expects over 30% annual growth, is mitigating the threat by diversifying suppliers, though the material’s Chinese dominance remains a hard ceiling.
