China Is Strapping ‘Digital Bombs’ to Civilian Infrastructure—Is the US Ready?

Volt Typhoon, a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group, has spent the past three years embedding malware in U.S. critical infrastructure, including electric grids, telecommunications and water utilities, to enable large-scale disruption. A recent war-game simulation showed that a coordinated attack could knock out 5,000 water utilities, causing burst mains, hospital evacuations and insulin shortages.
