CISA confirms hackers targeted over 100 US water systems during July
CISA reports that hackers targeted more than 100 internet-exposed programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in U.S. water and wastewater systems across Michigan, Minnesota, and at least five other states. The attacks, which used AI-generated scripts to exploit Siemens, Rockwell, and Schneider Electric PLCs, caused outages and disruptions but did not affect water supplies. U.S. intelligence suggests Iran may be behind the attacks, though attribution remains inconclusive.
