Comma’s hands-off driving tech under investigation after 2 fatal crashes
Comma.ai’s aftermarket hands-off driver assistance system is under federal investigation after five crashes, including two fatal incidents that killed three people. The NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation found the devices failed to detect or respond to slow or stopped vehicles in the same lane, injuring up to 11 people across four crashes. Some incidents involved modified “forked” versions of the company’s openpilot software.
