A cut cable disrupted hundreds of flights across the US

Construction crews in New Jersey accidentally severed a Verizon fiber cable, triggering a circuit failure that disrupted air traffic control systems. This outage forced ground stops at all three major New York City airports and caused hundreds of flight cancellations and delays across the Northeast. Verizon attributed the damage to third-party construction contractors.
