The data center boom will fail its promise if safety and workforce development continue to lag behind

PwC projects U.S. data-center investment will rise from $53.2 billion in 2024 to $118.4 billion by 2027, a 116% increase, while Deloitte reports core job postings up 64% and electrical-technician listings up more than 180% between 2023 and 2025. Patrick Doyle warns that rapid hiring is pulling workers from low-risk sectors into high-risk construction without adequate mentoring, advocating one-to-one journeyman guidance, pre-task safety dialogues, and protected stop-work authority to prevent accidents and project delays.
