Diesel prices in U.S. top $6 a gallon for first time
Diesel hit a record national average of $6.05 per gallon, up more than 60% from $3.71 a year earlier, with California pricing at $7.98. The surge stems from war-related supply constraints, including reduced Iranian output, limited Middle-East and Russian refining capacity, and Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries. Rising diesel costs have already lifted producer goods prices by 24.1% in August and are expected to pressure consumer prices, especially for refrigerated and long-distance foods.
