Christopher Sweet, a University of Chicago undergraduate, sought three college credits for his HUD role developing SweetRex, an AI tool to identify and rescind outdated federal regulations, framing the work as graduate-level research across four proposed courses. Emails show the final thesis outline was generated by ChatGPT, and HUD’s executive director of deregulation AI, Scott Langmack, facilitated the credit request despite lacking federal experience.
