The Dutch are filling gas wells with cement
The Dutch government is sealing the inactive Groningen gas wells by pumping roughly 500 metres of cement into them, a move intended to prevent any future revival of production despite remaining reserves of about 500 billion cubic metres. Officials chose cementing over mothballing despite opposition from the Mining Council and the chief scientific advisor, who argued that pausing extraction would preserve flexibility for geopolitical or economic needs.
