EU tech chief says AI guardrails are coming to the US anyway

Henna Virkkunen told G20 ministers that the EU and the US are arriving at comparable AI safeguards, with Europe using pre-emptive regulation and the US relying on state laws and court rulings. She cited the EU’s designation of ChatGPT as a very large online search engine and AI-Act questionnaires, alongside Meta’s settlement with 51 attorneys general, as evidence of converging rules despite differing implementation speeds.
