Europe's EU Kids Act would ban social media access for children under 13

The EU Kids Act would prohibit social media accounts for children under 13, allow supervised sub-accounts for 13- and 14-year-olds, and permit independent accounts only at 15. It requires child-friendly services with one-hour daily limits, removes addictive features such as infinite scroll and recommendation algorithms, and mandates age verification using non-biometric proxies. Compliance plans and enforcement under the Digital Services Act would apply, with penalties up to six percent of global turnover.
