Everyone Should Build Their Own Network Stack
The author revived the DNet project, a custom Linux network stack that creates a TAP device, parses Ethernet, ARP, IPv4, ICMP and UDP traffic, and now includes a minimal DNS server serving the DN42 domain 42420167.xyz. All DN42 services are run on Debian using Docker Compose and pyinfra, isolating each container in separate network namespaces. This setup demonstrates a fully hand-rolled stack capable of handling DNS queries and ping requests within the DN42 network.
