Feds launch investigation into Tesla’s Cybercab deployment

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a probe into Tesla’s Cybercab, which entered service in Austin, Texas without a steering wheel or pedals, to assess whether the vehicle complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. NHTSA will review the technical data and certification process Tesla used, including any claims that certain FMVSS requirements do not apply to the autonomous-only design.
