Fervo signs 396MW geothermal deal with Google for 2028 start

Google contracted up to 396 MW of geothermal power from Fervo Energy for a Utah data centre, with deliveries starting in 2028 and an option for an additional 600 MW by 2030, bringing the total order near 1 GW. Fervo’s shares rose 25% after the announcement, but its Cape Station project still needs Utah regulatory approval. In 2022, the EU’s net geothermal capacity was about 1 GW, supplying 0.5% of the bloc’s renewable electricity in 2024.
