Fluorescent lamps (don't) have ears

The author tested the claim that fluorescent lamps can act as passive audio eavesdropping devices by exposing a 9-inch lamp to a 200 W sound source and recording high-speed, 14-bit images at 1/8000 s shutter speed. Neither the photos nor subsequent video analysis revealed any luminosity changes correlated with audio frequencies, indicating that the lamp does not produce detectable acoustic-induced light fluctuations.
