Freckle's smartphone aims to get kids back outside on their own

Freckle launches a $199 smartphone for children aged seven to thirteen that runs on ClayOS, a restricted platform without an app store, open web, or social media. The device offers AI-powered object description, a mini-map, walkie-talk, and tap-to-pay, while parents can set call/text limits and create “Quests” to encourage outdoor exploration. It includes a durable case, lanyard, and a 3.1-inch screen designed to keep kids connected yet focused on real-world activities.
