Gavin Newsom is pushing for an AI kill switch

California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order directing the state to convene experts who must deliver recommendations within two months on AI safety. The order calls for requiring AI companies to embed independent verification groups onsite for regular audits, enforce standards for transparency reports and risk assessments, and develop a “kill switch” for frontier models.
