Gen AI Tools Are Now Being Used to Push ‘Slop Jihad’

A new Institute of Strategic Dialogue report identifies “Slop Jihad,” a wave of generative-AI-created cartoons, memes and fan edits that repurpose extremist propaganda, such as a SpongeBob-style video reenacting an ISIS drowning scene, to appeal to younger audiences. The study found 150 such videos from 71 TikTok accounts, accumulating over 5.4 million views, and notes that AI-generated content is making jihadist material more accessible while obscuring traditional branding.
