GitHub says commits have doubled in the last four months

GitHub reported that monthly commits rose from 1.4 billion to 2.9 billion between April and August, doubling the volume of code changes. The surge overloaded a critical component in its Central US data center, causing a seven-hour outage. GitHub is adjusting CPU/memory alerts, retry limits, budgets and timeouts to curb future retry storms and cascading load.
